POSITION: Regional Research Manager
REPORTS TO: The Atanniuvik Steering Committee, and to the Start-up Director upon their return to work. The Regional Research Manager will also work closely with the Atanniuvik Implementation Team.
LOCATION: Montreal, any Nunavik village or remote
ABOUT US:
Atanniuvik will be Nunavik’s new research governance organization led by Inuit, for
Inuit. Atanniuvik, an Arctic Inspiration Prize laureate, is supported by a strong
partnership between many regional organizations. The Atanniuvik team is actively
working towards an operational launch in 2025.
RESPONSIBILITIES – Regional Research Manager
Establishment Phase: To March 2025
- Overseeing and participating in the development of Atanniuvik’s research review process and Research Management Software System
- Planning for and establishing Atanniuvik’s Regional Review Committees
- Hiring, training and supervising the Community Research Manager and support for the same for the Community Research Liaisons
- Overseeing the awareness raising with regards to Atanniuvik within research communities
- Leading the collaborative development and implementation of a plan for gathering, consolidating and communicating Nunavik community and regional research priorities
- Liaising with relevant organizations, governments and communities within and external to Nunavik in support of the above tasks
Operational Phase: April 2025 onward
- Overall oversight of Atanniuvik’s research review process
- Oversight and management of the Research Management Software System
- Reviewing and processing research application pre-proposals and full proposals
- Liaising with the various concerned parties during the research review processes
- Serving as a secretariat for the Regional Review Committees
- Ensuring updates to and communication of Nunavik research priorities
- Assessing and reporting research trends, using the Research Management System
- Supervising the Community Research Manager
Additionally, the Regional Research Manager will serve as the Interim Start-up
Director until January 2024.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES – Interim Start-up Director
- Providing guidance and training for Makivvik’s new Inuit Research Advisor
- Liaising with funders to secure the balance of Atanniuvik implementation and operational funds
- Reporting to and liaising with the Steering Committee
- Ensuring that appropriate communications and engagement about Atanniuvik is carried out with Nunavik communities and regional organizations, in accordance with the Communications Plan
- Ensuring the development of Atanniuvik’s visual identity (logo and branding)
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelors’ degree with minimum of five (5) years of research-related experience in any field, a Master’s degree with a minimum of three (3) year of additional research-related experience, or a PhD
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience managing teams or projects
- Excellent organizational skills
- Demonstrated ability to work efficiently with limited supervision
- Strong team work competencies
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Ability to innovate and adapt to change
- Good communication skills in at least two (2) of the following languages: Inuktitut, English and French
- Strong computer skills, including with Microsoft Office applications
- Experience working with databases
- Willingness to travel within Nunavik
- Knowledge of or experience with research in Nunavik is a significant asset
DURATION: Contractual for two (2) years with possibility of extension
REMUNERATION: Commensurate with experience, with additional remuneration for period of serving as Interim Startup Director
