Atanniuvik Announces Its Full Board of Directors

Atanniuvik announces full Board of Directors and governance structure, advancing Inuit self-determination in research 

Atanniuvik, the organization mandated to manage and oversee research in Nunavik, is proud to announce the completion of its Board of Directors and the establishment of its governance structure, marking an important milestone in advancing Inuit self-determination in research. 

Following elections held in December 2025 and organizational appointments in early 2026, the Board now reflects representation from Nunavik’s regions and key partner organizations. 

The members of the Atanniuvik Board of Directors are: 

– Billy Palliser, President | Anguvigaq (January 2026 – December 2027) 

– Barrie Ford, Secretary-Treasurer | Makivvik (January 2026 – December 2027) 

– Billy Cain, Member | KRG (January 2026 – December 2026) 

– Rhoda Kokiapik, Member | Avataq (January 2026 – December 2026) 

– Hilda Snowball, Member | NRBHSS (May 2026 – December 2026) 

– Pierre Philie, Member | Hudson Strait Representative (January 2026 – December 2027) 

– Allen Gordon, Member | Ungava Coast Representative (January 2026 – December 2026) 

– Oleepeka Metuq, Member | Hudson Coast Representative (January 2026 – December 2027) 

Each member brings extensive knowledge and a shared commitment to ensuring that research in Nunavik is conducted ethically, respectfully, and aligned with Inuit values and priorities.

Organizational Progress 

Atanniuvik continues to advance toward full operations, focusing on strengthening research oversight and community engagement. 

Community Research Committees 

Atanniuvik is establishing Research Review Committees to: 

– Review research proposals 

– Ensure alignment with community priorities 

– Promote transparency and accountability
